FAQ

  • What is a synthetic dread ?
It's like a natural dreadlock, except that it's not made with your own hair but with a synthetic fiber called Kanekalon, usually employed for braids and hair extension. Synthetic dreads are an excellent way to enjoy having dreads without the inconveniences of  knots and having to cut your hair if you don't want them anymore. Moreover, they offer a wide choice of colors you can take the liberty to do without bleaching or damage your hair !
  • What are dread falls ?
Your dreadlocks are put together on a rubber band or a lace, which you have to tie around ponytails or buns, so that you can wear it only during a party or when you're not at work if your boss disapproves, for example.

  • How do you make synthetic dreads ?
It's 100% handmade, without any chemical, with a personal method i developed and improve, so that i can offer you the best quality. They are worked to be long-lasting and be installed several times.

  • How to install synthetic dreads in my hair ?
By making a simple braid around your dreadlocks, maintained with a small rubber band. To make this braid, at least 3.5 inches of hair are needed. I recommend to keep your dreads from 8 to 10 weeks (max 3 months), and to let pass a week before installing them again. But you can do whatever you want : wear them for a week, a month...
  • Is there any maintenance to do ?
You can wash you hair as you usually do, once in a week is enough. To make it easier, dilute your shampoo in a bottle with cool water, and massage your scalp and roots. Remember to rinse carefully. Don't rub the dread, it could damage it.

  • How to remove them ?
Just cut the band and undo the braid. If your hair is usually straight, don't panic if it's frizzy, it's normal. Then, brush your hair : you will lose some dead hair which couldn't fall because of the braid. Wash your hair, you can use a special shampoo that won't leave your hair tangled, and a revitalizing hair mask.

  • Can I use my dreads twice or more ?
You can wear them as many times as you like, but after a while, some dreads may become fluffy or loose : it may require a reparation, you can find tutorials on the web to do it yourself, or send them to a qualified dread maker. Of course, if you like them fluffy and loose (which I do!), you don't have to re-tighten them, but it it will strengthen them for the future.
Once you uninstalled them, keep them away from dust, cats, dogs, or rodents !

  • How many dreads for a full set ?
First, we recommend double ended dreads for your whole head. They allow to place two dreads easily, with only one braid. As a result, it looks more natural, it's faster to install, and it makes twice the thickness !
For an average volume :
Thin dreads : about 40 DEs
Medium dreads : about 30 DEs
Thick dreads : about 20 DEs

Try not to get over these numbers, because dreadlocks can be heavy and hurt your back and neck.
